Global History 9H

Ms. Conte's Global 9H

Course Description

Hello and welcome to Global History & Geography 9 Honors!  I am looking forward to an exciting and successful year together.  Global History and Geography 9 is a required course for high school graduation.  Students in this course will begin their study with the beginnings of civilization and conclude with the transformation of Western Europe into a rich, cultured, and questioning society. In this course, we will use primary and secondary sources to examine the major events in history. Students will develop an understanding of the chronology of history while also learning how to apply themes such as belief systems, justice and human rights, nationalism, diversity, and change to their study of history. In addition, students will develop their knowledge of geography to better understand how it influences the many regions of the world. Furthermore, students will develop the skills the Nyack school district believes are essential for the 21st century learner. They include critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, compassion, content mastery, and cultural awareness.

This course will be significantly more challenging than the Regents course and will provide multiple opportunities for you to take greater responsibility for your learning.  This class will be distinguished by a difference in the quality of the work expected rather than merely by the quantity of the work required.

Global History and Geography Honors course is designed to provide students the opportunity for advanced work and a rigorous academic study for students who aspire to an advanced level of learning.  You and your parents should understand that this course is more demanding and I have expectations beyond those of the Regents social studies course. This means that you will be expected to complete document based question essays, enduring idea essays, and individual/group projects at an advanced level.
