Visual Arts

All art courses may be used for a major (5 unit) sequence. Upon successful completion of Studio in Art I & II, students will have a portfolio of work that meets the New York State Arts requirement for graduation. Upon successful completion of a major sequence, students will have a portfolio that will give them an advantage in the college application and acceptance process, even if they do not plan a college art major. A "Visual Arts" portfolio is also recommended for students interested in applying to architecture schools. Note: One full year of Studio in Art 1 & 2 is required to meet the graduation requirement in Visual Arts.

THE SEAL OF ARTS EXCELLENCE
The Seal of Arts Proficiency honors students who demonstrate dedication, growth, and achievement in the visual arts through creative expression and exploration. It recognizes both technical skill and the ability to think critically, communicate visually, and engage with the world through art.

To earn the Seal of Art Excellent in Visual Arts, students must accumulate 10 points through art courses, portfolio work, reflection, and active participation in the arts—showcasing artistic development and 21st-century skills such as innovation, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.

INDIVIDUAL ARTS ASSESSMENT PATHWAY (IAAP)
Under the “4+1” pathway assessment option, students take and pass four required Regents and then choose to complete a rigorous art pathway to meet the fifth assessment requirement for graduation.The Individual Arts Assessment Pathway (IAAP) is 4+1 graduation pathway option in which students complete a three year sequence in visual arts and demonstrate, through a portfolio of original work, growth over time that meets the High School II Accomplished Performance Indicators in the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.
