English

Nyack High School requires students to complete four years of English and pass the New York State English Regents Exam in junior year in order to be eligible for graduation. Both Regents-Level and Honors-Level courses align with the NYSED Next Generation Literacy Standards. The primary distinctions between H-level and R-level courses lie in instructional scaffolding, pacing, workload, and text selections. Regardless of the course, all offerings, including college-level courses and senior electives, aim to develop proficiency in the Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language Usage strands outlined in the Next Generation Standards. These comprehensive strands emphasize 21st-century skills essential for meeting "College and Career Readiness" standards.
