AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic elective course that prepares students for college readiness and success. Each week, students receive instruction utilizing a rigorous preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center, collaborative study groups, motivational activities and academic success skills. In AVID, students participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, collaboration, organization and reading to support their academic growth. Students enrolled in AVID are typically required to enroll in at least one of the school’s most rigorous classes, such as honors, Dual Enrollment or AP, in addition to the AVID elective. The credit is applied toward total elective credits for graduation. This program is intended to be a 4 year commitment. Committing to a program for four years demonstrates dedication, perseverance, and the ability to fully engage in long-term growth and opportunities. During the 8th grade, students who are interested in AVID will apply.
