The Nyack High School Visual Arts program empowers students to develop as creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and artists while discovering their unique voice. Building upon the skills developed throughout the K–8 program, students engage in meaningful artistic experiences that emphasize exploration, technical skill, personal expression, and creative independence.

As students progress through our program, they learn to generate original ideas, thoughtfully plan and revise their work, communicate concepts visually, and make intentional artistic decisions. Through a balance of technical instruction, experimentation, reflection, and critique, students develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to create meaningful work that connects to their own experiences and the world around them.

Advanced students are challenged to create self-directed bodies of work, participate in professional critiques and exhibitions, develop digital portfolios, and prepare for college, careers, and lifelong creative practice. Whether students are exploring art for the first time or pursuing advanced study, our program encourages curiosity, innovation, collaboration, and the belief that every student has the capacity to think and create like an artist.

High School National Art Honor Society

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding artistic achievement, scholarship, character, and service. Members have opportunities to expand their creative experiences while giving back to the school and local community through art exhibitions, collaborative projects, leadership opportunities, and service initiatives. Participation in NAHS encourages students to grow as artists, leaders, and advocates for the visual arts while building a strong portfolio for college and future endeavors. Open to all juniors and seniors who meet the requirements. The application link will be emailed to all qualified students annually and will be promoted in the art classes.

Seal of the Arts Excellence: Visual Arts

The Seal of Arts Excellence is a distinguished graduation honor that celebrates a student’s dedication, growth, and achievement in Visual Arts through personal expression and creative exploration. It recognizes not only technical skill, but also the ability to think deeply, communicate ideas visually, and engage meaningfully with the world through art.
