Social Studies

The Social Studies Department at Nyack High School provides students with opportunities to explore history, government, economics, psychology, law, geography, and contemporary social issues. Through the study of diverse cultures, historical events, and civic institutions, students develop the critical thinking, analytical, research, and communication skills necessary to become informed and engaged citizens.

Our curriculum encourages students to examine multiple perspectives, analyze complex issues, and make meaningful connections between the past and the present. In addition to our core history and government courses, students may choose from a variety of electives, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and dual-enrollment opportunities through Rockland Community College. These offerings allow students to pursue their interests while preparing for college, careers, and active participation in an increasingly interconnected world.
